Android Controls: How To Use The PlayStation 3?
PlayStation 3 is one of the most popular consoles in Sony’s gaming universe. Without going any further, since its launch in 2006 until the end of its commercialization in 2017, the Japanese company sold a figure close to 90 million units. Well, if you are one of the thousands of users who have decided to emulate your favourite PS3 games on your phone, in TuAppFor we will show you the different options to connect your original joysticks with your device, either through wireless technology or through free apps.
In 2017, the Sony company stopped manufacturing and marketing its seventh-generation console in Japan and in other countries around the world. However, there are still millions of gamers in every globe that keep these devices in their homes with their respective DualShock 3 control or with the Sixaxis adapter. This is one of the reasons for the growth of the emulation of PlayStation 3 games for the Android system, to which is added the development of game apps with resolutions and improved graphics.
Connect PS3 control to android via Bluetooth (with root)
Before you start it is important to know that the PlayStation controllers are not designed to be synchronized via Bluetooth as other more advanced Sony devices do, so you must access the Android operating system with Root permissions if you want to use the device. Control the console on your phone or apply the following tricks.
Check if your device is compatible
The controls of the PlayStation, from the most basic to the most sophisticated, are designed with different functions of wireless connection of Bluetooth, USB or with the analogue mode. Either way, with each of them, you can make use of connection techniques to your smartphone.
Although most smartphones are compatible with the control of this game console, it is true that some models of popular brands such as HTC or Samsung have connection problems.
If you want to know if your device is compatible, you must download the Sixaxis Compatibility Checker application , which after giving root permissions will inform you through the message “Your device appears to be supported” – which in Spanish would be equivalent to «your device seems to have supported» – if the used tablet or smartphone can synchronize with the DualShock3.
Once the good news is given, this same app will show the Bluetooth address to be annotated in order to join both devices and be able to enjoy hours and hours of fun at its best.
Modify the Bluetooth address of the remote
At this point, you know that both devices are compatible and you have the Bluetooth address, but you must change this address so that the process can be successfully completed.
To do this, you must access the website of Dancing Pixel Studios and download the SixaxisPairTool app on your computer, which will allow you to enter the address you previously recorded when verifying the compatibility of the command.
For this, the first thing you should do is connect the controller via the USB cable to the PC and the same software will install the drivers. Once this step is finished, you can now change the Bluetooth address that comes by default for which we will have to use.
What if you want to use the remote again on your PS3? The answer is very simple. It is not necessary to change the addresses again, just simply press the PS button – it is indicated in the image – and the controller will automatically synchronize with the video console again.
Connect the Ps3 control to your mobile via Bluetooth
But this has not ended here … One last step will be missing, which is to link the Dualshock with your Android mobile. To do this, you must go to Google Play and download the Sixaxis Controller application, also developed by Dancing Pixel Studios. As you can see, this tool has the same icon as Sixaxis Compatibility Checker, so it is important that you do not get confused.
This is the procedure you should follow:
- Open the app, leave it in the background and go to the system settings. Once inside, select the Language and text entry option and check the Sixaxis Controller box.
- Go back to the application and press Start. Wait until the message “Listening for controllers” appears and then press the PS button on the remote to link it with the mobile.
- Finally, click on Change IME and check the option Sixaxis Controller.
- All ready! If you have followed these 3 steps in an orderly fashion, your DualShock controller should work on your Android device. And if you want, you can configure the controls by entering the app in Gamepad settings.
Of course, keep in mind that Sixaxis Controller has a cost of € 2.29, so be sure first that your smartphone is compatible with Sixaxis Compatibility Checker, which is completely free.
